Home is wanted

Alexandra Clod

Collage, paper, 21x30cm, 2024

While researching the colonial history of Cyprus, Alexandra was staying in Nicosia, the last divided capital in Europe. Meeting many people there, whose families were displaced due to the war in 1974, inspired her to draw parallels with her own experience of being an internally displaced person in Ukraine, since her homeland was occupied from 2014.

Although Cypriot and Ukrainian political and historical contexts are different, both of them resulted in the territory separation and people’s displacement. Following the story of an olive tree from Eleftheria square, Alexandra highlights the scale of displacement
